It is about a 2 hour drive from Te Anau to Milford Sound but once we were in the National Park we had numerous stops at viewpoints for photos. We also stopped at Mirror Lakes, it was alot like Lake Matheson but we got a much clearer reflection today.
The drive to the ferry terminal was beautiful with all the huge, snow capped mountains, lakes and streams all around us. When we got on the ferry we all had a buffett lunch, making the most of it of course! After we'd eaten we went out on the deck to take in the stunning views of Milford Sound. We got to see a group of fur seals out on the rocks & some breathtaking water falls. It was so cold and windy on the boat! We've really noticed the temperature drop whilst being in the southernest parts of the island.
We also got to go on an under water observatory, it was nice but a bit lame when you've been to the Great Barrier Reef! Milford Sound is so beautiful, we just don't know how to explain it and the photos really don't do it justice - is is so much more spectacular and beautiful than they show. It is how you picture NZ you know?!
After the underwater observatory and boat back we got back on the bus for our 4hr drive back to Queenstown. It was a long drive on a bus but Milford made it worth it. Waiting for us in Queenstown was Chris & Hannah - it was great to see them again. We checked into our hostel, Base and then we all went to Fergburger for dinner and spent the night catching up. We are going to spend tomorrow in Q.T with them too which will be good.
