Up at 6am this morning for an early departure to Wanaka. We drove out to an area near Fox Glacier to the mirror lakes (Lake Matheson). From the veiwing area you could see the reflection of mount cook perfectly.
After we drove through Haast, we started to head in land, bye bye to the West Coast. You could see the scenery change as we headed more in land. We drove over the gates of Haast bridge, Nick got off to walk over. As you pass through Haast pass you can see huge cracks, signifying the fault lines associated with the main divide. We stopped to see a huge waterfall, which had an optical illusion!!
It was alot of driving today as we covered quite a distance. But we eventually entered the Otago region. We were stopping for the night in the town of Wanaka. We checked into our hostel, Base, where we were able to get a 6 bed dorm between us and Chris and Hannah. We all went and got some dinner and stayed up chatting in the kitchen until we got kicked out because it was closing! The boys went back to the room and looked through each others travel photos whilst Hannah and I went and had showers.
We stayed up late in the room chatting but did eventually get to bed.
