A bit of a quieter day today to help us nurse our hangovers from the party but still a very early departure! Not far from Lake Mahinapua we stopped in Pukekura at a Bushmans center. They had two gorgeous stags there, huge antlers. They were so friendly, Nick and I stroked and fed them lol.
From here we headed south to Franz Josef Glacier village which is within the Westland National Park. We saw loads of kettle lakes on our way, the water was such a cool colour, like icey baby blue. We to our hostel, Rainforest Retreat and I am not joking, our room was a garden shed with a bed and fridge in. Very strange. But can't complain as they have a hot tub which Nick enjoyed whilst I had a shower. We went to the supermarket with Chris and Hannah to get bits for our glacier hikes tomorrow.
Nick is doing the full day hike which consits of a 5km walk out to the glacier, 8 hours on the ice and then the 5km back. I don't think I'm anywhere near fit enough to do that! I looked into the half day hike which is the same but only 2 hours on the ice but then I heard about a heli hike I could do. You got out in a helicopter on a scenic flight around the glacier before landing high up on the glacier to do a 3 hour ice hike. It's quite a bit more expensive but I'm not looking to do a bungy or sky dive so decided to go for it.
Hannah and I cooked a meal for the 4 of us which we had before going to the bar with everyone to watch a live band. We had a good night but the band were abit crazy, some Russianrock type stuff, very odd but made us all laugh lol.
