Hard to believe a week has already gone by since I have left the States. This past week has been such a whirlwind. Just yesterday the University had their opening commencement celebration. All students of the University paraded throughout the town with the marching band.It was a really nice way to get a tour of the town!During the festival we were given the opportunity to sign up for clubs and school events that we may want to participate in for the semester.Rebecca and I decided to check out the Tennis team, so we may be keeping busy with that in a few weeks! We also saw SJ's mom there at the festival and we received another invite for weekly dinners! (we plan to not pass that up, considering all we eat and bananas (which cost a fortune) and sandwiches).Today it was 97 degrees, so hot hot hot and lucky for us they scheduled Perth/Fremantle Amazing Race.It entailed hours under the direct sunlight running between the two cities to received clues! After a long day my team didn't even end up with a prize…. Booo!
Life here is similar yet very different than home.Just a few things I have noticed so far.
People walk through the streets, shops, and grocery stores with No Shoes and sometimes No Shirts!
Everything is 3x the price of what they would be at home!
People are beyond friendly!
NO ICE ANYWHERE!Water luke warm because of external pipes which get heated by the sun! Yuck!
Sunscreen is a Must at all times!
Air-condition is a rarity!
Instead of saying College, its Uni so "What are you studying in College = What are you studying in Uni"
Campus is also very different from home. For anyone who has traveled to SMC or even schools like SVSU both have campus with buildings for classrooms, offices, recreational centers. However here it is not one main campus. It is buildings randomly places throughout the town!Lots of streets, shops, cafes, shopping centers, businesses. It reminds me somewhat of Downtown Bay City with single lane streets!Everyone walks everywhere!Fremantle, or Freo, what the locals call it is also a port city so the Harbor is just blocks away where the beach is.The public transportation system is really prevalent here too! Everything from trains,(Freo to Perth, which we took today, 30 minute ride) buses, and ferries are used.
Had a chance to talk to my Parents this morning, well evening for them on Skype. It was nice.Heard the ASC boys are doing well at the season, congrats to Kevin!Happy Birthday to Aunt Anne and Hollie as well, hope your days were special!I assume all is well at home, as it here. I'm in the process of trying to get my back account set up as well as getting phone.Yes, you all read right!I haven't had a phone for a week now!I know you probably can't believe it, but I speak the truth!
Well tomorrow we plan to go to a different beach with SJ and Ashleigh and maybe going into the city, Perth, for the day/night!Love you all
