I'm Here, I'm Here!
Made it in after a long trip of many hours being either in the airport, or in the air!The long flight from LA to Sydney was 15 hours...yuck!Let me tell you the service on Australian airways are just wonderful! The plane was a double decker and the seats were nice and big.Everyone had their own screen so that made it nice to kill time! The real fun started when we landed into into Sydney to find out we had 45 minutes to get through customs, re-check our bags, security and find our other gate! You all should have seen Rebecca and me, you would have been so proud. We were like little independent Women walking.....(actually RUNNING) through the airport like we owned the place! After our little marathon (more like triathlon) we did make it to the flight!Had another 5 hour flight and we were landed in our soon to be new home! The Australian girls, SJ and Ashleigh, were there waiting upon our arrival! It was actually quite funny because they were literally seating right at the gate!In the American airports, nontravelers can't get past the main door of the airport but there they were, past security and waiting for us!It was nice because we had extra hands to go get our suitcases and such!
The girls are so sweet; they brought two cars so we could be sure to fit all of our luggage!Once we made it to Fremantle from Perth, which is not even 30 minutes, we were in for a treat! Our new home is called the P&O Hotel. All of SMC girls have singles so it is nice to have our own space!Getting to our room was quite the trip, let me tell you!We walk to the front door to find a flight of stairs.Just imagine us girls trying to our 100 pounds of luggage up all these stairs!
Later that evening SJ had invited us for a family dinner. It was great; her family was so nice and cooked a great meal.We visited with them for the whole evening, but soon enough our jet lag had caught up to us!By 10:00 pm (9:00am your time) we were cuddled up in our beds ready to pass out for the rest of the night.
Today was the first day of orientation. We did basic housekeeping, nothing too exciting!During our break we took a walk to the grocery store (seriously I have no idea how I am going to make it here for 4 months, cooking/shopping for myself is a serious joke!)The real trick is that anything you buy you have to be able to carry a mile back to home, so we were really limited!
Interesting fact:We were talking with the check-out girl and she was telling us how if she worked on a Sunday as a check-out girl she would on average get $31 an hour!Doesn't that just crazy!!
Anyway, after our shopping excursion we found our shelves at the beach!OHMYGOODNESS was it just beautiful! So crystal clear and refreshing from the 95 degree weather we are in!(side note, no air conditioning!)
Came back from the beach and had our first community dinner. There are 30 other students studying here but most from the same area!Anyway after dinner lucky me got to be on clean up duty, lucky for my team members I can be classified as a Pro at dish washing , from all my hard work at the cafe of course!
Alright well I think I have written enough, better get going!Love and Miss you all! Keep me posted on what is going on at home!
