We decided to do some of the Great Ocean Road once we got to Melbourne whilst we still had the car. We got about halfway along I think. It really was a beautiful journey along the coast. It took a while to even drive to it and we spent the whole day stopping at various places along the way. The first place we stopped was at a lighthouse where they filmed the tv series "Round the Twist"! Back in the 90's! We stopped for lunch next to a lovely beach and around 30 cockatoos descended on us! I've only ever seen one or two up in the trees but there were so many coming to try and get some of our lunch! I took pity on a straggly looking one who looked like he'd been beaten up by all of the others!! He managed to steal some of my sandwich!
We watched the England game in the casino in Melbourne which was much better than being outside again. We were all really tired so we left Beth and Steve to the drinking in the casino!
The following day we went to an exhibition of Tim Burton's work. It was pretty cool! He seems quite messed up actually! We went to watch "Toy Story 3" in 3D at the casino in the evening too. Very good film if you haven't seen it!!
The highlight of our trip to Melbourne was visiting the "Neighbours" set! It was quite an expensive trip but it was worth it having grown up with the show and watching it for around 20 years! We took a trip up "Ramsay Street" which is actually a tiny little culdesac where the tenants are asked to move out twice a week so they can do the filming there! They are paid for it so it's not too bad! It was raining when we were there which ruined the illusion as it's meant to be sunny in Ramsay Street all the time! We took a trip to the set where they film the rest of the scenes which had "Lassiters", "Charlie's Bar", Harold's cafe etc! Everything was so much smaller in real life and all on top of each other! It was quite funny to see it all! We then got to meet one of the ex characters from the show! Anyone remember Janelle? Well we met her! She got sacked as the head bosses didn't like her character, she was a bit too rough! It was a bizarre meeting! We stopped the bus outside of a fun park, she jumped in the bus and said hi then stood in the doorway of a theatre whilst we had pictures taken with her and she answered question. She was really lovely actually, we were all secretly hoping for Karl Kennedy though!
The morning of Viccvie and Matt's last day we visited the "Lindt" cafe for a chocolate filled breakfast! It was awesome! We had croissants with a pot of melted chocolate and hot chocolate made from a pot of melted chocolate and milk! Complete chocolate overload but so worth it!! Viccie and Matt had to leave after breakfast and it was really sad to see them go! It was so lovely having them there!
After Viccie and Matt had gone we went to the local market and had a look round. It was like the markets in Bangkok, only much more expensive!
We also met our friend Jodie in Melbourne who we'd met in Vietnam. She lives there and is house sitting at the moment and looking after someone's dog so she couldn't stay for long but it was really lovely to see her and catch up! It's not likely that we'll see her again being so far away so it was sad when we said goodbye to her!
New Zealand next on the list!!!
