Today we did a 10 hour trip starting at 7:45 heading for Milford Sound. The trip Incorporated rainforest walks, waterfall walks and cascades of water ending in a chasm. The weather was poor in terms of rain but apparently it is area that has the most rain in New Zealand and last year had over 10 metres of rain. However, without this, we would not have seen the number of waterfalls that we saw today which were absolutely amazing see photos later on the blog. The trip ended with a boat trip on the Milford Sound which again were spectacular. A couple of times the small boat that we were on went right underneath some very large waterfalls, we were able to stand outside on the boat and feel the spray and stood there long enough to get absolutely drenched the feeling was incredible and scary at the same time. It is difficult to describe some of the sites that we saw today both in the rainforest and the waterfalls and rivers and I’m sure the pictures will not do it justice. we were very fortunate to see the Kia bird. Whilst we saw these in the wild today, we saw them in the bird sanctuary a few days ago. They are incredible and have the mindset of an eight-year-old child. They are able to do incredible things. Apparently on YouTube, you can see them moving cones before tourists arrive causing chaos on the road.
