A fairly early start as need to cover a longer distance today. Travelled some 42 km along the side of Lake Taupo before stopping at the bottome end of the lake for coffee. The motor home certainly means you can be very flexible where you stop for refreshments and meals! It was then continuing south on Highway 1 through lots of rolling countryside with a different view around each corner. Sun shining but very windy and had to be careful with speed as vehicle gets buffetted about.
The highway took us alongside the Tongiriro National Park and we had our first sighting of snow on the mountain top of Mt Ruapehu and pulled off the road for lunch. We then continued south through amazingly diverse countryside and stopped off at Otaki Beach, just a turning off the main highway to explore and found a beautiful beach with black volcanic sound and littered with driftwood. We carried on south and the road got busier as we we approached Wellington and headed to our stop for two night right on the Waterfront and once parked up were able to walk along the waterfront to get supper. No cooking tonight!
