After breakfast we walked round the beautiful Blue Lake - no sign of another person and then back to the motor home and we headed to the Taupo Volcanic Zone. Steam was rising from all over the place as we travelled to Wai-O-Tapu another major thermal wonderland. The area was covered with collapsed craters, boiling pools of mud and water and steaming fumeroles and lakes and pools of different colours which were dependent on the type of minerals through which steam had been forced. After an hour or so it started to rain so we headed back to motor home and for lunch before heading to Huka Falls. As it was still raining we decided to take a river cruise (Under cover) up to the falls. Proved very good choice - nice ride up river seeing all the wildlife, passing thermal power station and prawn farm before arriving at the bottom of the falls. Very exhilarating. The boat captain was very informative and passionate about the environment. Once we were back to the motor home we went to the Huka Falls by road and viewed this from above which was equally as spectacular. We then headed to Taupo and after a short trip around the town and lake - Lake Taupo is the largest in NZ, we headed to our overnight stop site for an earlier night before our long trip to Wellington tomorrow.
