We started our morning off with a nice serve of bacon, eggs & fried tomatoes served on toast. Knowing we were in for a big morning with horse riding booked through Watson’s trail rides.
We arrived Watson’s at 9am signing our waiver forms & selecting our safety helmets. By 9.30 we were allocated our horses, Pete was given Jumbo who was true to his name, also known as a gentle giant. I rode on Rumba who was a sprightly old girl who had a mind of her own and was very particular with who she looked to associate with.
We had a wonderful ride to the ridge where looking left we could see towards the town of Mansfield and looking right towards the Howqua Valley. The ride catered for all riding skills and allowed those more experienced to get up to a decent canter. I was more than happy to just stay at a trot & keep with Pete however Rumba had other ideas. She obviously knew the track and where she is normally allowed to have a good run. The others started to speed up & I tried to hold her back however ended up letting her just enjoy the wind in her mane (noting I enjoyed it immensely also as it has been a number of years since riding an experienced horse).
After the ride we enjoyed a nice cool cordial in the homestead. We then ventured off towards Mansfield to check out town & grab some more water. As we wandered through town we grabbed a nice pie from the Mansfield Bakery before returning back to camp.
Even with the wind picked up we decided to have another refreshing swim in the pool to cool off and refresh before heading out this evening to the Kevington Hotel.
We arrived at the Kevington hotel and sat on the back patio listening to the river rush by drinking a nice cold refreshing beverage. After a stroll by the river & a snack on some blackberries we headed inside to the fully restored dinning room to order dinner. The boys eye off a passing steak sandwich & chips which was so delicious but also so filling it left no room for dessert.
After dinner we headed back to camp to relax and settle in for the night as we have more adventures planned for tomorrow.
