We prearranged the previous night to spend today exploring. We piled into the car ensuring the boys both took front seats so us girls we could sit back and simply enjoy the ride.
We headed out of the park and before long the boys decided to head to Mt Buller. A place neither had seen before and it had been a number of years since we had been up, and never in the summer months. We arrived at the parklands area where the left road leads to Mt Sterling and straight takes you up to Mt Buller. * perfect photo opportunity which also turned out as hilarious video shoot - check out photos & videos for great entertainment!
After escaping the giant horse flies we literally jump back into the car and venture up to Mt Stirling. A beautiful spot but we were also disappointed as the cafe was closed. We load back in the car and double back down to the parklands and head up to Mt Buller. It’s quite surreal seeing the slopes all grassed up and not a spec of white to be seen. Also expecting the weather to be considerably cooler given the altitude however much to our disappointment it was still a warm 24 degrees at the summit. This was only 10.30am! We had a nice coffee & then back into the car to trek back down to head towards Jamieson.
We arrived by just after midday to the Jamieson Brewery with hopes of tasting a nice ice cold local ale. Much to our dismay the are closed tuesdays ! We decided to head to the Jamieson pub instead which didn’t disappoint - great food, friendly staff & ice cold beverages! (Just not local beers- next time!)
As we headed back towards camp we noticed the open sign to Jamieson Berries. To our delight we enjoyed a nice ice cream with delicious berry sauce and left with some jam & alcoholic cider in hand.
Returning back to camp with the heat close to unbearable we headed for the pool to cool off. You would think after a refreshing cool swim we would feel some reprieve however with the heat still beating down we head up to reception we were indulge in a $2 cornetto ice cream and sit for the few hours playing monopoly deal in the comfort of the airconditioning.
With our stomachs reminding us that the day is close to an end we return to the camper & heat to start to prepare dinner. Slightly distracted by a few cold beers & writing this blog it’s now 7.30 still hot & yet to start dinner!
Once the cooler weather does finally arrive we will start to pack up camp as we say goodbye to Howqua and head to our next destination.
Let’s hope for cooler weather with less flies lol !
