August 11th (Tuesday) - Day 163 - Napier
We were now heading back up north. The odd thing was that there were only 6 people on our bus. The driver wasn't sure why the numbers were so low but this gave us more freedom in the timings of the stops. For some reason I was really tired and slept all the way to our first stop at a wild life centre. They housed Kiwi's and as we had not seen a real one it was really exciting. We had a quick walk around the bird park but didn't see a lot so we decided to hot foot it to the Kiwi house. Kiwis are nocturnal so to get around that problem their enclosure is darkened out in the day and lit up at night. We were told they'd be hard to spot but as soon as we walked in there were two playing with each other. They are funny looking birds! We then jumped back on the bus and once again I was out of it until the next stop. Luckily this was the Tui brewery and as such I was more than willing to wake up. I thought we'd have a few little samples and leave but we quickly found out you get 3 normal size drinks to try all for 2 dollars. Therefore the stop turned into more of a pub stop. Sarah didn't want her 3rd one and tried to offer it to the driver... Back on the bus I was out of it straight away. We made one quick stop and then headed into Napier. I'd managed to sleep the whole journey. Napier is meant to be the art deco capital of the world. As the least artistic person ever I didn't have a lot of interest in it. Some of the buildings looked cool but I didn't see what all the fuss was about. We'd quickly got to know everyone on the bus and as such we all decided to go for a walk together. I had so many double takes with one of the girls called Fabien. She was the spitting image of my friend Eve and even sounded like her. Eve you have a long lost twin! We walked to the sea front to see the famous art deco fountain (which looked like any other fountain to me) and then wandered to the art deco shop/tourist museum. We'd decided to all cook some Mexican and share the cost so headed to the supermarket for supplies. I ended up cooking most of it which was cool as we don't get many chances to cook. We then spent the evening in the hostel and watched a film with everyone.
