July 15th (Wednesday) - Day 136 - New Zealand - Christchurch
…We arrived on time but the line for immigration was huge and there were only two people working the 'All Passports' desk. They seemed to be quizzing everyone for ages which always gets me worried given my immigration history. Funnily enough when it got to Sarah and I she was stamping our clearance forms before she even started to talk to us. (Apparently English people are exempt from most the rules so we just walked straight in). There were more long queues for customs but we eventually made it through. I found our shuttle and we were off. It was already midnight by this point but we were not tired as it was only 10pm in our heads. We were the first to be dropped off in town which makes a change. Our hostel was really nice (and really cheap compared to Aus). I think with the jet lag (haha) and the excitement of being in a new country I did not get to sleep until really late.
July 16th (Thursday) - Day 137 - Christchurch
I set the alarm for 8 as we wanted to get up and do stuff but after the 14th snooze I gave up on that and we didn't get up until half 10. We walked into town and treated ourselves to a late cooked breakfast. First one we have had in over 3 months! We then had a really long walk around taking in the cathedral, information centre, some strange procession of kids playing drums, the gardens and river. We soon realised that Christchurch does not have a lot to offer unless you head out of town. Which we did not have the time or energy to do that day. Instead I had my hair cut and we went and watched the new Harry Potter film at the cinema. Everything in New Zealand is cheaper than Aus so we treated ourselves to a nice Mexican for dinner. That evening we played some cards and relaxed.
