July 21st (Tuesday) - Day 142 - Greymouth
Our bus picked us up and we started to head south. It was going to be another long day on the bus however we had a few cool stops along the way. First we drove up though the Buller Gorge. Such a stunning area. The first stop was Cape Foulwind, named so by Captain Cook after his ship was blown off course. There is a huge seal colony there which if I am honest stank a lot! It was also really windy. Our second stop was at the Truman pass. We walked about 15 minutes from the road down to the coast to see loads of lime stone formations and cool rock features. Our final stop was at the Pancake rocks. Just as we started to walk down the heavens opened and we got soaked instantly. It was really amazing scenery nevertheless. Finally we arrived into Greymouth. There is nothing much to do here apart from a brewery a tour and BBQ. The bus was really late picking us up and it needed to do 2 trips as there were a lot of us. Instead of us missing it 11 of us got into a 6 seater bus! The tour itself was quite boring but at the end you got to try all the beer with a 45 minute open bar. Knowing it was only 45 minutes we of course made the most of it. They then ferried us over to a local bar where they have an all you can eat BBQ and a free beer. Only the beer from the brewery beer though! We had a good night with some of the others from the bus and shared our experiences etc. The bar staff started to get a bit pushy wanting us to buy more expensive drinks so instead we left and had a few more back at the hostel.
