Naomi and Becky's Travels
Today we went to Doi Suthep - a Buddhist temple up in the hills surrounding Chiang Mai. Got a songtheuw up the hill, took about 45mins to reach it - we had to go along some really windy roads - felt quite sick by the time we reached it! Plus the Thai driving - i.e. overtaking round blind corners and driving on the other side of the road, didn't help!
Our little Songtheuw waited for us in the car park and we heaed off to look around the temple. We went because we read there were really good views of the entire city - hadn't realised there would be more up hill climbing to do!
Had to climb 306 steps - may not sound like a lot but I can tell you when you're actually climbing them in the heat of the mid-day sun it sure feels like a lot! We could have got a cable car but decided to take the healthy option!
Got to the top and had a little look around. It was made up of lots of small temples with the 22 carat gold pagoda at the centre.
Sam Chiang Mai - photos are a little hazy but the view was magnificent - could see the entire city and a plane flying below us - really weird!
Then had the windy journey back down to the city.
Last night here tonight - fly back to Bangkok tomorrow.
