Neil's Round the World Trip!
So after a month or so of chilling out at home adjusting to life back in suburban Glasgow I decided to travel again and visit my Swedish friends in Stockholm; with one of my mates, Shaun.
We got the train down to Prestwick Airport from Paisley which took about 40 minutes. It was rammed with commuters and so we had to stand the whole way. We got off and ran into the airport as it was pissing down!
We then checked in and had to pay 5 quid each for our luggage (which seems really unfair!). We bought some Scottish gifts for our Swedish friends Ebba and Julia. We were a little rushed as we had taken a later train to the airport (we missed the first one by minutes). Due to the anti-terrorism restrictions on hand luggage we suddenly realised our bottle of Paul Masson was going to be wasted! We skulled the bottle in the airport cafe and then proceeded through security. We bought some cheap vodka in duty-free and then sauntered into the lounge only to hear the last call for our flight!
We ran across to the plane as the rain lashed down and were met with staring passengers pissed that we'd probably delayed our departure. We found some seats and played top trumps (a panic buy Shaun made as we left). After a few games we were bored and so we had some banter. After 2 hours we were beginning our descent into Stockholm Skavsta. They have so many lochs; there seemed to be hundreds of lochs dotted amongst pine forest.
We landed and after making our way through immigration, baggage etc got on a flybusgannan bus (you can buy tickets using a credit card in the baggage hall). It took 1 hour 30 mins to reach Central Station bang in the heart of the city. We got out and were welcomed by Ebba and Julia. They looked great and were dressed to go out immediatly as it was quite late (due to our dodgy flight times).
We thought about going straight out but we couldn't leave our luggage in security vaults (as they shut at 11pm). So we got a taxi to Ebba and Julia's sister's house on the outskirts. We were starving and bought some great hot dogs from a Shell petrol station then walked to the apartment.
We watched the film footage I'd taken when me and the sisters were on the Whitsundays cruise, Hervey Bay and Byron Bay. We drank vodka and Sprite for a few hours then got another taxi to the sister's own apartment in another suburb of Stockholm. A nice apartment with a balcony in a quiet residential area.
We stayed up chatting, laughing and listening to music. Me and Shaun drank whisky while the sisters had vodka/sprite and we watched the sky as it lightened from dark to blue. We eventually went to our beds at 5 in the morning.
