Neil's Round the World Trip!
I got up early and had my breakfast. I then walked to the nearby souvenir shop to find some gifts but either something was too expensive or they didn't have the right size etc. I left disappointed but did buy my dad a pair of Brazilian beach trunks!! I said goodbye to Nacho, Bruno, Jacob and my Canadian friends from Vancouver.
I got a taxi to the airport and checked-in. I wasted some time on the internet and browsing spirits in the duty free shop. I waited in the departure lounge and boarded the plane. I was seated next to a very polite English businessman; he said dreadfully sorry to me when leaning over to accept the tea from a stewardess etc.
I had some idle chit-chat with the English businessman from Cambridge. Our plane flew to Sau Paulo where we picked up some more passengers. We then headed towards London and the entertainment system kicked in. So I watched a few movies, one of them called Alien..something stars Ant and Dec; it's really good. I also watched a funny film called Benchwarmers.
The time flew by and eventually we were over the mid-Atlantic. I tried to get some sleep but it was impossible. So I arrived in Heathrow Airport tired and zombified. I also stank having been in the same clothes for 22 hours. I got the Heathrow express to Terminal 1 and checked-in for my flight to Glasgow. I wasted some time reading the Independent and the Daily Record catching up on current events.
I walked into the departure lounge and met one of my mates Henstridge who was returning to Scotland having been in Austria at a conference. We chatted for a while and then had some scran.
I then got on my plane to Glasgow and was welcomed by my family at arrivals.
The trip is over!
BEST BITS of Brazil:
Sunbathing, swimming and people-watching on Copacabana beach.
The Corcovado Statue.
Sugar Loaf Mountain.
Sipping caipirinhas in Florianopolis after long bus ride.
Chilling out on Florianopolis beaches.
Sandboarding down dunes in Florianopolis.
Foz do Iguacu waterfalls.
Not getting robbed after several warnings from other travellers.
Favela samba funk party.
WORST BITS
Long bus rides.
Meeting the most annoying Aussie, Christian.
Ivan the Terrible's snoring!
Not having enough time left to visit Ilha Grande.
Suddenly realising my Spanish was no longer useful and instinctively saying gracias to people instead of obrigado when people helped or served me.
