Neil's Round the World Trip!
We got up around noon and had Weetabix with vanilla yoghurt (the Swedish way) and fresh blueberries. Ebba was working so me, Julia and Shaun decided that we didn't have enough time to head into the city. So we decided we would have a crayfish BBQ dinner and get really drunk at the flat before hitting the city.
Me and Shaun wore our kilts and walked to the nearby train station with Julia receiving a few stares. We got onboard and were approached by a hen party who were making the future bride beg for change so I chipped in a 30p in Sterling! We got out at the nearby shopping centre and went to ICA where Julia works. We met her friends and chose food for the BBQ. We returned to the bus stop and got a few wolf whistles on the way!
It was really warm and stuffy but after a short bus ride we were back at the flat. We were still a bit knackered after a tiring week and so we chilled out on the sofa watching Swedish tv and listening to Swedish music. Julia showed me the girl's holiday photos on the PC which made me wish I'd gone to Thailand/Malaysia on my world trip.
Ebba returned from work totally exhausted so it took us until around 7 in the evening to get in the party mode! The vodka certainly helped and soon we were giggling on the balcony. The girls prepared the Swedish meal of crayfish and salad. It looked amazing all spread out on the table. We were really impressed!
The girls showed us how to eat crayfish which are like little lobsters. So as instructed we broke off the claws and sucked the salty water (bit rank) out; I smiled pretending I enjoyed it. The hard part was breaking off the tail (where all the meat is) as invariably all the yellow guts spill out and go everywhere. This happened to Shaun nearly the whole time! I hadn't payed close attention to the girls instructions and had eaten the black spine (you're not meant to eat). It was an experience!!
We then danced around like idiots (well..me and Shaun did!) in the living room to various high tempo tunes like Tryptico etc. Yep we were completely mashed and so it was time to hit the town! We staggered down to the train station climbing on to the tracks to avoid paying and waited on our train.
The train was full of young people on the way into the city. There was nearly a fight between an African guy and some Swedes but the situation was calmed down eventually. We got on the Tullibanna and walked along the same long moving walkway that 2 years earlier me, The General, Monty and Henstridge had run along in our fancy dress completely donald ducked!
We met Julia's friends and walked to Klein's where Ebba and Shaun were already drinking. The music and atmosphere was really good. We had some weird concoction called a "Lina's drink"...it's powerful! It was really warm and so we ended up sitting outside in the cool night air chatting.
Around 4ish we left Klein's Bar with the munchies so we walked to a great hamburger take-away that Ebba showed us. The burgers are huge and rammed full of all kinds of veg, sauces etc. Amazing!
We got back to the apartment around 5 after a fun night out.
