We set out today to reach the high country on a mission to Lasithi High Plateau where the altitude is 850 m (2788 ft). The trademark of the plateau is constituted by the thousads of windmills used to pump up water from the springs. Just before the plateau we arrived at the Moastery of Kera. It is believed that the establishment of the monastery is connected with the miraculous icon of Virgin Mary, after which it takes its name (Kera means Our Lady), which is today located in the Church of San Alfonso in Rome. After driving through many small vilages we came to Diktaian Cave. With anticipation we started our climb to the cave only to discover the gates were closed and several people grumbling as they were jumping over the fence. We decidied to join the crowd and have our own private tour. The Cave of Psychro according to mythology, the goddess Rhea hid there in order to give birth to the king of the gods - Zeus and deceive Kronos to whom she gave a stone in a bag to swallow instead of the newly born infant.
