When we arrived at the airport we were greeted by the gate agent who informed us that the passengers were ready to riot due to the delay and would be boarding the plane as soon as possible. After running around the plane making sure everything was in order we started to board the passengers. Moments later we received an updated weather report stating there was heavy fog in Sweden and we were unable to land. After 1.5 hours of sitting in the plane with upset passengers waiting for the weather to clear we decided to off load the plane. Most of them willingly left the plane except five angry men who wanted nothing more than to argue with the ground crew. So after an hour of shouting from these passengers the police were called to maintain order. It was 3:30 a.m. and the weather was still not cooperating. Rather than making the crew comfortable, it was decided that we should stay on the plane and sleep until the weather conditions had improved. We now had Michael, myself, and five other crew members sleeping in separate rows of the plane. It was now 7:30 a.m. and finally the weather was on our side. We re-boarded the passengers and started our flight to Malmo, Sweden. That was a new experience to sit in the front of the plane flying through heavy fog watching the altimeter decrease and still no runway in sight. I was looking forward as much as I could staring out of the window trying my hardest to see the runway lights when all of a sudden we landed. I think I took a few deep breaths after that landing. We boarded the rest of our passengers and started flying to Erbil. Flying over a city with ongoing military action and flying around UAV's proved to be interesting. We had to fly very high and then suddenly descend to the runway and avoid the guard towers that surround the airport. Before entering the hotel we were greeted by several men at the gate with their weapons checking out our van. We drove through the gate, screened our bags, and checked into the presidential suite. Finally we were rewarded for all of our hard work. We quickly opened our Vodka and mixed a few cocktails before making the trip downstairs for the buffet. As I ate my dinner, I thought hmmm this doesn't taste like lamb and the fish tasted like mud. We returned to the room for a shower and were both asleep before 10 p.m. Two hours later I woke up and realized what food poisoning was all about.
