We took about a 4 hour journey on a public bus to reach Melaka. It is very warm here and a pretty little place. I took a walk around the shopping centre, through the streets, and through China town - very different from the one in KL, more opportunity to browse without getting harassed!
James went on a tour of the city in a carriage with a bike attached at the side, where the driver sits and pedals - known as a rickshaw. It is funny watching the drivers having to push the bike up any inclines. The carriages are decorated with a huge selection of flowers, and at night the little richshaws paint the streets with coloured twinkling lights. But the drivers also insist on playing really loud boom boom music that just spoils the atmosphere a little bit. James also went on a relaxing boat ride down the river with some of the group.
We had a lovely meal at The Bamboo Hut and was provided with evening entertainment by one of the waiters. He showed us a Haka war dance which originates from New Zealand. At the end of the dance he showed his tongue, which symbolises him wanting to fight.
The streets of Melaka have a great vibe...it feels less chaotic than the other cities.
