We travelled about 4 hours by public bus to Singapore. We had to pass through the border control, which was a easy compared to the Malaysian border!
We had a walk around and we were amazed at how clean it is, and how strict too - no crossing the road away from a designated crossing, no littering and no flagging taxis. Crossing the roads is a nightmare, you can be stood waiting for the little green man to show for about 5 very long minutes! But then your on a countdown timer, so you know exactly how long you have got to cross the road without dying!
We eventually found the station where the hop on and off buses are. So we had a whirl wind hour tour of the city - taking the pressure off our poor feet! We went through Little India and Chinatown, passed Raffles Hotel and passed a very large flea market.
James bought himself a pair of shorts because he is sick of only having one pair other than his swimming shorts - he soon regretted it with the prices!
That evening was our last evening together as a group before we would all go our separate ways. We decided that we must go and have a Singapore Sling at the Raffles Hotel. To save ourselves some pennies we decided to walk after being told by our tour guide, Nuddy, it is a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Except I think she was playing funny b*****s, she sent us the wrong way in the pouring rain, dressed up, and we arrived as drowned rats about half an hour later! We then had to navigate our way through the many walkways and stairs around the hotel to find The Long Bar. After much waiting around we eventually got served with the infamous Singapore Sling - The bar had a jazz band playing and couples were up dancing - quite a good atmosphere, well apart from the huffs and puffs from the boys having to walk miles for a pint!
The following day we didn't really do much... I wasn't feeling well anyway so I was happy to stay in the hotel. Some of the other group should have already flew to Jakarta in Indonesia but due to the volcanic eruption it got delayed. So we were more than happy that we had an extra day with everyone.
On Monday 8th we went to the iconic Sentosa Resort to have a look around. James and Rich had a go on some segways... Rich flew off into some trees and James could not contain himself. Sentosa has a couple of man made beaches, surfing activities, bars and clubs. Definitely worth a visit on a night to have a good party or at the weekend when it is busy. That evening we took a flight to Darwin whilst Rich caught a flight back home.
Farewell Asia!
