We drove to monument valley today it took about 7 hours. We all soon realised the van was sending us all to sleep and Anne asked if she should wake us up when we pass something interesting we were like 'Yes pleeeeease!'
We arrived and went on a jeep tour with a Navajo (native Indian) guide as they own the land and it is officially a separate country with it's own government. The scenery was breath taking and we felt like we were in a movie. We took lots of photos and Becky bought a hand made Native American Indian bracelet for $2.50 bargain!
The guide showed us amazing places and took us into a sheltered cove with a hole in the top and played the drum and sang a traditional song to us it was stunning. We also experienced the best echo ever! The terrain was quite rough in places and he took us on a very bumpy and very fun ride!
As it was going dark we went to eat tea which was a traditional meal of like a flat bread with beans, a tasty red sauce and salad and veg and cheese on top it was absolutely delicious. Then the Navajo played music and sung to us and we watched and got involved in dancing around the campfire.
We slept in a hand built hogon which is a traditional house made from a wooden structure and covered in earth. There was a wood burner inside and we were all so happy we were going to have a warm nights sleep! We had no toilet and all slept together in the big room. Before bed we hung out with Cody Cody( that's his facebook name :0s) and he told us stories of the Native Indian history and he told us of times he has seen UFOs in the skies out here. We watched the sky for quite a while as a few of us had never seen it so bright and clear with views of the milky way. We soon all forgot our earlier disappointment at being unable to drink due to us being in a dry community haha!
