We got up early and were taken to watch the sun rise over monument valley it was absolutely freezing but beautiful!
After a breakfast of porridge and hit chocolate beside the hogon we got back on the van and went back to sleep on the drive to the Grand Canyon.
Anne gave us paper bags to draw on as she wanted to guide us to the grand canyon and have it revealed to us as she says it's so good to see it the first time this way. As we walked blind guided by Anne we heard many school kids laughing at us walking through a national park with paper bags on our heads! When we did take them off it was well worth it to go from looking at the inside of a paper bag to the full panorama of the grand canyon, it looks so much more vast and beautiful than on any photo or video. It really does need to be seen in real life. Although we were rather close to the edge and a sheer drop! Scary! We hung out and had lunch there and then went to set up camp we had a bit of free time so we did some washing and had showers, it's so good to get some down time! Ash had a couple whiskeys and was feeling the alcohol hit him, Anne said this is due to the altitude!
We then set off to see the sunset over the grand canyon and it was an amazing experience, Becky was feeling nervous as some of the group decided to venture out on a protruding rock hanging over the edge and she told Ash he wasn't allowed to go down there! We toasted a glass of cocktail to the sunrise and took loads of photos.
Anne cooked us some scrummy chicken soup which was well needed as it was going to be -4 degrees Celsius tonight and we sat around the camp fire drinking hoping if we drank enough we wouldn't feel the cold in the tent!
