After a day wandering aimlessly around the stunning hilltop town of cordes Sur Ciel yesterday ( cordes in the heavens) we left en route to beynac.
We stopped in another stunning town named st cirq lapopie which clings to a hilltop hundreds of metres above a river.
In the tradition of : it's a thousand years old or we ain't interested, we visited the grotte pech Merle , which is a system of caves discovered in 1922 that has cave paintings up to 25,000 years old.
Paintings of bison, bears and woolly mammoths.
Our French guide was pointing at some scratchings on the roof and describing in French the scene. He then told us in English about the female body scratched on the roof..... Michelle called him over and pointed at an object scratched about a metre away, asking what it was. He stated , a phallus., michelle looked confused...... It's a male sex, our French guide stated.... Michelle still looked confused........ It's a d*** I said......ohhhhhhhh she said.... Highly embarrassed!
A flying visit to the torphillys, then a touristy dinner in beynac of snails and frogs legs.

Ps....(I'm butting in now) I actually got it when he said "male sex".... I didn't know he had failed to explain it to the group....apparently I had picked up on a separate drawing.....
