Gladly left Thunder Bay at 6:30 am. For the long drive to Sault Ste Marie. Long way between towns but noted lots of red rock up to Nipigon. Reminded us a lot of PEI. Stopped for breakfast at Nipigon. Nothing of note until we took a break at Wawa. Love the name! They have huge HUGE carved Canada Geese and "Gitchy Goomies"; a local style of totem carvings that made me laugh. Lucked out to find a Timmies. Also saw my first Hells Angle up close. Gotta say it wasn't what I was expecting. He had a bushy beard and the heavy leather jacket but the shiny red track pants and sneakers killed it for me. Really, where were the jeans and biker boots and chains??? I told Cam he should go tell him he's not dressed like a Hells Angle should be but I don't think he heard me cause he didn't say a word to him.
Pressed on through some nice country along Lake Superior and spotted some large sandy beaches. Came across an accident, looked like a Semi had blown an outside tire and an oncoming car ended up in the ditch. Emergency crews were just arriving so Cam didn't stop. Arrived in Sault Ste Marie late afternoon and after checking in to the hotel we drove around. It is a very beautiful city. Lots of old buildings being cared for, gorgeous old rock and brick churches. Definitely want to come back and spend more time.
