We woke up at 4am, it was still dark and with no electricity we had to get ready by torch light. We quickly got out, although in my haste I forgot my ring.
We jumped onto the jeep as it was really cold and set off towards the volcano. It was about an hours drive away along bumpy roads, but we made the ascent in time to see the sun rising over the mountain. At the top there were lots of steaming vents, although the first one we saw was man made with a pipe. It was also very sulphurous so didn't smell to good either.
After a quick stop and pictures we moved on to the hot spring. We were one of the first to arrive there and the backdrop to the little pool was amazing. It was still cold but I quickly stripped off and got in. The water was lovely and exactly what I needed on the cold morning, having not showered for two days. The others all got in to except Heidi who couldn't take the cold.
It was lovely in there and we sat there until it started to get too busy with other people. Coming out was tough and with no changing rooms I managed to moon those people who were sitting in the pool.
After leaving my stuff on the car to dry, we went for breakfast and a much needed coffee. It was quickly time to move on and upon coming out I found that my shorts and towel were frozen. Together with the others we hung our stuff in the windows and then drove off so the sun could dry them.
Our next stop was lake verde. We were again one of the first there and the view was amazing with the mountains behind reflecting perfectly on the lagoon. After a few pictures and saying goodbye to our guide we headed to the border.
We arrived quite early and after the formalities boarded the bus to Chile. After crossing into Chile we quickly were on a proper highway and sped down hill towards San Pedro. It was a steep descent apparently 2500m in 25 minutes. We were now at a normalish level again so altitude sickness wouldn't be a problem.
Getting through the Chilean border took a while but we were quickly into San Pedro. It seemed like a nice quiet little town and you could feel you were in a more developed country.
It took a while to find our hostal but once we were in it was quite nice. The owners couldn't speak English but they got one of the other guests to translate.
We were quite tired so went to sleep for a bit. When we woke it was already 5pm. We decided to head out and see what there was to do. The walk to town was only 5 minutes and there was one tourist street with all the restaurants and agencies on.
Walking through we bumped into the others from our car and arranged to meet them later. The tours looked uninspiring, mostly visiting geysers and lagoons which we had already seen. We did want to do the astronomy tour but it was coming up to a full moon so they weren't running.
There wasn't much to do here so we decided to plan our next move. We found a place with wifi and checked the options. I found a flight to Santiago but was unable to book it. We gave up and went to meet the other guys for drinks.
We went to a nice place with a fire and had a couple of drinks with our tour group. Genna and Paul were late as they forgot to change the time but we had a nice evening chatting and I had a really nice chicken dish too.
After dinner we said our goodbyes and headed to our hostal and went to sleep.
