Although we hadn't gone to bed so late we still were a bit tired in the morning. Our checkout was at 11am though so I got up and started getting ready.
When I was ready I went outside to use the internet but it wasn't working. I watched a ted video while I was waiting. The owner Jose also came by and I explained to him that our bus wasn't till the evening and asked if we could stay in the room. He seemed ok with it and I hoped he understood what I meant.
After Shivani was ready, we went for some breakfast at a place recommended in the book. I had a chicken sandwich and Shivani had pancakes. Nothing special but satisfying enough. The place also had wifi so we checked our mail for a bit too.
We then went around to a few hostels to find a book exchange where Shivani could swap her book that she had finished reading. We eventually found one and Shivani got a Jeremy Clarkson book.
We then headed back to the hostal to chill and wait for the bus. I ended up falling asleep again and Shivani did too. It was only for a little while though, but there must have been something in the air.
It was 5pm and we decided to get something to eat as we would only get breakfast on the bus. We walked into town and found a pizzeria. The pizza came out quickly and was really nice. We quickly ate it and headed back to the hostal.
On arriving I paid Jose and he also offered to take us to the bus station. The hosts had been really welcoming and although they couldn't speak English it had been really nice. I promised to write him a good review.
We got to the bus station on time and had a short wait for the bus. It left on time and we headed out of San Pedro as the sunset. We went out through the valleys and saw the same scenery that we would have seen if we took an excursion. The landscape was very different and dry. We took a few pictures as we made our way to Calama to change buses.
We had to take a bus with a different company and luckily our bus dropped us outside the terminal of the other. We had an hour wait for the bus and I went out to buy some water. Calama was a normal non-touristy town and I don't think there was much to see there.
The bus came on time and we boarded and made our way to the back for our seats next to the toilet. This would be our space for the next 15 hours. The bus was nice with good reclining seats so we were hopeful of a good journey where we would be able to sleep to pass the time.
