I enjoyed my leisurely start this morning. For me it's a day dedicated to chilling out ahead of my only internal flight. I repacked to reduce my bags down to one check-in and one carry-on. I check-out of the hotel at 2pm and took the shuttle bus to Terminal B at around 3pm. I paid $25 for the checked bag and then was able to head airside. I explored the various stores and cafés between gates 6 and 36, then sat at the bar in TGI Friday where I sampled a mojito ahead of my flight... (for medicinal purposes of course), followed by a latte from Starbucks.
We boarded the flight for Charleston at 1830, taking off at 1855. The plane was tiny! Packed to the rafters, with thirty people aboard. We had a small amount of turbulence, which is not my favourite thing (neither the take off, nor landing). Well, truth be told, the whole flying thing. My friend Sal had mentioned to me that you haven't really flown unless you'd tried a small aircraft. I had looked at the train option, but it would have taken around four days, with five switches on buses and trains including a midnight change at New Orleans, so I acquiesced and flew.
I chatted to the lady who sat next to me. She'd been to California for induction training for her new job in Atlanta which she starts after the weekend. Anyhow, two hours later we touched down in Charleston, South Carolina. Phew!
I'm excited to be here. My hotel room at The Andrew Pinckney Inn is fabulous! Large and stylish with a king bed, plantation shutters, window balcony and a bath the size of a small pool. Can't wait for tomorrow!
