Seemed very early to get up but had the train to catch at 8 30. For once wasn't raining on the trip to the station and was relieved as didn't want wet backpack. Boarded train and some girls had put their luggage in our seats so thinking no more of it moved to some other spare ones. Settled in as the train pulled away. Ticket guy came around a bit later and seemed irrationally upset that we weren't in our reserved seats (not even together but opposite on the aisles) anyway such a kerfuffle as the girls were ordered to move their stuff and clear the seats. Ended up that 3 pairs of people had been randomly assigned seats, therefore with a group effort after the ticket guy had gone moved and rearranged ourselves so all sitting with correct partner. Moved 4 times in trip in total and found the system ridiculous but at least it amused us on the 7 hour journey! Arrived into Madrid and got the metro to the hostel. Checked in and had a little rest. As previously mentioned hostel in a certain district of Madrid and Arthur fascinated by the girls and how they could be out there in the middle of the day. Did take a little point out that they were a certain type of girl for him to realise however! Headed out again to the Reina Sofia art gallery (check me out!) and spent some time admiring the art. Obviously completely missed the point with some as all the art contemporary and some pieces were modern art at it's most obscure. Was good to see tho and some definite highlights. Saw Picasso's Guernica and some famous Miro stuff. Headed out from there and attempted to find a veggie restaurant recommended in the guide book. Eventually found it and was quite expensive so walked to the Plaza Mayor. Found the walk quite pleasant, maybe the La Latina part of Madrid is the nice bit?! Ended up eating in the plaza and both having ridiculously overpriced pizza. Walked back to the hostel and had a good old pickle and packed my bag while Arth sat on the balcony and watched the world go by(!) had a little read and went to sleep.
