On the 9th November, which was on a Friday so when we finished work, we had hired minibus to go to Udawalawe so we were really looking forward to it but it was a very very very LONG journey. It was very dark when we arrived and we met the owner of the 'hotel'.
We then checked in, it was gorgeous, old wooden cottage style and was by a river. The little houses were surrounded by thousands of trees. I was distracted for a while before I squealed my head off as the owner had a dog and it was sitting in the room, refusing to get out. I was on a mission to get it out but the owner and a friend was laughing, didn't look like they were bothered about it.
I was sharing with Sara, we were looking around in the cottage, it was gorgeous, the beds were big, proper wooden and IT WASN'T EXACTLY THAT CLEAN. So me and Sara was squealing and flick the infamous sri lankan bugs! -.- but we were so tired so we just slept.
On the saturday morning, we got up like..early, like 6 am and got in a open roof safari car, we were getting excited, bless the owners - they gave us bunch of bananas so we can last until the breakfast later on in the morning!!
It was rather chilly so I was glad I had something to cover my shoulder, the truck was a bit rough, so I was very glad there were some bars I can hold on so I can brace myself. It was very OPEN so I could just easily fall out of the truck!
We then proceeded to see many of birds, couple of amazing peacocks (their feathers..SO BRIGHT), some monkeys, and lastly.. ELEPHANTS!
We came up SO close to the elephants, it was amazing and they were so gorgeous. I quickly felt a bit scared, as they can KILL. The truck was very OPEN, we had this moment when we were on path and a baby elephant was blocking us. Then two of adults one came, one did look like it was gonna charge at us so the driver was ready to reverse!! But thankfully they decided to walk away, I was relieved and was in awe with how close we were with the elephants.
We got out of the truck to see a lake and took photographs, we then came back to find our bananas completely ruined by birds or monkeys. :(
We did the safari for about 3-4 hours so we were starving when we got back to the hotel, we had a LOVELY BREAKFAST! Eggs, toast, fruits, smoothie and cup of tea. They had few dogs walking around, I was putting my legs up on the chair, how sad but then after few minutes watching Sara feeling so relaxed around dogs, I decided it was safe to sit comfortably!
We phoned the minibus to come back and pick us up...
Then it was time for us to leave and explore somewhere new!
