We were due to arrive at Kuala Lumpur at around 01.00 where a few passengers would disembark and the rest of us would continue to Singapore. We had our last meal in the dining car and we requested that we had a table for two as the other evening and lunch meals they try and mix you around which is fine as long as you get on. We had some great company and sat with people that lived near us, people that had lived near where we had lived and a French couple that spoke as much English as we spoke French but we got bye and had a laugh. We sat with an Australian couple but avoided discussing wars more so than if they had been German. But then there was the couple from Wimbledon who couldn't understand why anyone would want to drive to the airport, she looked like Mrs Peacock from Cluedo and if there was going to be a murder on this Orient Express she would be the victim and Lesley said I would be the perpitraior. The nice thing about being retired is not having to explain what you do for a living but this "lady" wanted detail. Asked what I did for a living I replied that I was retired, she lifted her top lip slightly, looked over her glasses at me and said "retired from what" work I said instantly realising that she didn't find my reply as funny as her husband but that look was the look I got each time I asked a question that she either didn't hear or she just chose to ignore me. When it was explained that we handled the logistics for people involved in market research she informed us that she had been involved in research At some point, I felt myself drain as I suspected that she had been a research supervisor who had always been the pain of my life but no, she had been involved in medical research which apparently you have to know what you are doing. I suspect the logistics aspect was to trivial to discuss. I could go on but Lesley keeps telling me to calm down. The only thing that I could imagine could be worse would be a pair of Australians living in Wimbledon with a long memory.
Anyway our last night was great but we had been warned that a derailment of a goods train outside of Kuala Lumper may stop us from reaching Singapore and sure enough when we awoke the next morning we were in the middle of know where. It was now established that we could not even get into Kuala Lumper therefore we were put on a coach for an hours transfer to Kuala Lumper airport and flown to Sinagapore. This in theory was ok but we had a flight out of Singapore to Borneo which was starting to look tight so we asked them to fly us direct to Borneo which in turn got is there an hour earlier. Now to get 60 business class seats at short notice was obviously not easy therefore people were put on various ethnic airlines at different times and as we approached the airport it clicked that not everyone was going from the same airport. In a nutshell some people were flying from here and others were flying from another airport we passed 40 kilometres back, we were flying from a domestic terminal not far away so they stuck us in a car to get there. We were ok with our flight but we think others might have struggled especially as they were international flights.
Just before we boarded the heavens opened so with heavy rain and lightning we sat on the plane with a 40 minute delay and ended up arriving 20 minutes before we would have on the flight from Singapore. We had still flown with the same company which was Air Asia and when we asked the train manager if he could sort the flight he asked if we were happy to fly with them. We were happy enough but I suspect it wouldn't have been suitable for Mrs Peacock who most probably missed her business class flight driving around Kuala Lumper, can't understand anyone doing that myself!
We had arrived in Kota Kinabalu, Borneo and had an hours transfer to a jetty where we were to catch a motor boat transfer to a resort on Gaya Island where we are going to chill out for 5 nights after our traveling, we made the connections albeit a little tight and await daylight to see what the place has to offer.

Janey I wondered why Mrs Peacock picture was on your page - thought you might have been hacked but fortunately you were only hacked off!! Shame about Singapore, next time perhaps. Enjoy Gaya Island. I will look forward to seeing your photos to see how it has changed since we were there. Have fun. Janey x
Wendy Hopefully in daylight the resort lived up to expectations! What a roller coaster adventure !
