Today was actually a lot of fun.
I woke up at about 10:30 which I've found is about the perfect time to wake up here. People are just starting to come online on facebook and skype and well I just like to sleep in :)
But spoke to dad for a while on skype, had a big bowl of chocolate cereal and then went to the Louvre, you know your normal things. The Louvre was actually really cool. I was planning on doing the STMLAG (See the Mona Lisa and go) method, but I ended up spending the whole time there until it closed.
First thing I did was go to the apple store there, that's right they have an apple store at the louvre. It was on the way from the train station so I couldn't resist.
But then I actually got a ticket and went in, and went to see the Mona Lisa which was surrounded by people of course. You couldn't actually get closer than about 2 meters away from it because of the barriers they'd put up. It wasn't really all that exciting, it was just like any other painting to me. But I guess that's why i'm not, what do you call those guys who critique art ... oh yeah boring.
But after seeing that I actually had a look around at other paintings and I found a few funny ones but also found the one that coldplay used as their album cover for Viva La Vida.
Then I went and had a look at this little modern art bit on the way to the ancient egypt part which was pretty cool as well, then had a look at where Louis III lived, then by that stage it was pretty much closing time so I just wandered round a bit through a general painting area and saw a few good ones and a few more funny ones and then left.
As I left the sun was just setting and it had only finished raining about half an hour ago so the was quite wet. But I decided to just go for a walk from the Louvre, through the gardens, along the Champs-Elysée and then to the Arc de Triomphe. It was quite a nice walk actually and quite a good time to do it with everything being lit up, including the Eiffel Tower.
Then when I got to the Arc de Triomphe I went under this little passage to get right under and then I saw a thing that said you could go to the top of it, so I did. But on the way there I went in to this mini shopping centre kind of thing to go to the toilet and I found one that was actually this shop tha's complete purpose was a toilet, it sold toilet paper and other toilet things as well, but there were about 5 toilets there that all looked very fancy, but this woman came up to me and said "toilet?", "yeah" "ok 2 Euros" to which I jut left. But anyway I climbed the stairs to the top of the Arc de Triomphe which was actually quite hard work for someone who is as unfit as I am. But once I got to the top it was really cool, I had a really good view of pretty much all of Paris and of the absolute insanity of the traffic beneath. The Arc de Triomphe is on a big round about that should have about 6 lanes around it, it's that big, but it doesn't. It's basically drive in and hope to some how get out again. It was really cool having a bird's eye view of Parisians yelling abuse at each other from their cars. It just brings a smile to my face.
It really was a good day actually, it was nice to get out a bit more again after being sick and being in the countryside.
