Marty's Adventures
My night in the capsule went well. I was worried I would hear everyone all night and I am sure I heard a few. When I finally tucked in for the night there were 3 pairs of slippers on the floor outside the capsules and when I woke at 3am there were 50 all nicely lined up in front of the capsules. I wish I had of taken a picture! I tried to fall back to sleep to no avail and ended up getting up at 4am. I was not the only one as I am positive I gave a Japanese woman a fright .... She came in to the bathroom and looked at me with fear in her eyes and then stepped back and looked at the woman on the door then looked at me again and she slowly creeped in the room and straight into a stall. I know exactly what she thought! I finished getting ready and made my way over to the airport. I have learned a few words, for example ohayou.... Good morning...and that gets me a smile every time! I was far to early to check in so I spent some time sitting outside in the cool air! My flight was on an airline called Jetstar.... Very cheap but perfect! I even got an emergency row seat with no one beside me! Flight was pretty quick. I am becoming a pro at the train thing so I was able to get on my train and my connection and was at the hotel in Tomakomai in no time! Found my team and they were getting ready to head to the fish market. I dropped my bag in my room and off I went to the fish market. Lots of interesting seafood and fish etc. We had lunch there. More dumplings and ramen! I decided getting adventurous with food will wait until after the tournament! I had some time to settle in to my room. It is great, a wee room perfect for one and priced for one person. We gathered as a team again and made our way to the Opening Ceremonies. We registered and got our team picture. There were some traditional snacks there and I had what I would describe as mashed potato battered and deep fried balls. The opening ceremonies were great with lots of different cultural shows. Music, dancing, swords and Karate! When they asked us to move our tables back for the dance party we made our move and headed out. Need to save these dancing feet for Broomball tomorrow! Apparently the thing to do around here is have ramen noodles late at night and just our luck the hotel has it for for free!! So I had a wee snack and off to bed!
