Marty's Adventures
What a great day! Started off the day with breakfast in my comfy jimbei. The hotel has a buffet breakfast. There was your typical breakfast stuff like bacon, eggs, waffles and yogurt...but there was also rice, fish and curry. I decided to be safe and eat what I knew before I had to play Broomball. We headed off to our first game. We played against a team from Japan. The score was 0-0. We played 95% of the game in their end. We hammered them with shots but they played a tight defensive game and it was like shooting at a wall of players!! 6 goalies on the ice it felt like! We played hard and were happy with how we played. We headed back to the hotel for lunch. I went to the store next door and bought rice balls and yogurt.... NO NOODLES today!! The rice balls are basically rice triangles wrapped in seaweed. Was perfect for lunch. After lunch we headed to an elementary school where we were going to visit the grade 5 students. We met with the principal first and gave him and some teachers some really nice books of the Aurora. They loved them! We were then led through the school to the gymnasium. Felt like we were celebrities. All the kids wanted to high five and say "hello". They were so excited.... We were so excited!! We got to the gym and the students were there. We each introduced ourselves and told them what we loved about Japan so far. I told them that I loved how gracious everyone was....I also wanted to say how much I loved all the smiles I get but someone said it right before my turn! They showed us their skills on the unicycle and we showed them some Broomball moves. Then they sang for us. WOW.... So beautiful!! They sounded amazing and some of the kids played the piano. Very talented. We exchanged gifts. They made us some really nice posters with all kinds of encouragement and we gave them NWT flags and pins. What a great experience! We headed off to our next game. We played against an international team of players from Canada, Italy and Japan. We won 4-0. We played a good fast game and it paid off. We felt good about our games for the day! We went for a team supper at a restaurant across from the hotel. We cooked our own meat in the middle of the table with a little BBQ kinda thing. Was sooooo very yummy! Off to sleep at a decent hour tonight as we have a 9am game tomorrow. This morning I was awake at 4am again but willed myself back to sleep until 7. I think I might be almost switched over!!
