As we left Switzerland the road had that familiar feel about it again, and as we crossed the border into France I said to Julie that we had most definitely been over the pass before and she believed me as we rode past Mont Blanc. This time we spotted glaciers that were breaking off, which we didn't notice last time.
We were headed for a campground near a smaller city called Crest, again we just relied on the GPS to set our route. This time it did well, taking us along a road that clung to the side of the mountain, went through narrow gorges and passed through some lovely forests.
Eventually bringing us to our camp situated in the forest on the side of a mountain, quite lovely for our base to explore the area.
Now, I have been complaining about the weather, the rain, the cold and storms, and that we had headed to southern France to get warmer, drier weather, well it was bound to happen, now we are complaining about the heat! Every day has been in the mid to high 30s!
I always remember my dad saying, 'As a rule mans a fool, when it hot he wants it cool, when it's cool he wants it hot, never content with what he's got!' Ain't that the truth?
Being in the forest on the side of a hill we have done some walks to check out the views and wildlife. We haven't seen a lot of wildlife, but we were happy to spot a European Green Lizard and some birds and lots of butterflies.
We also left early one morning to find a road we had seen in a motorcycle magazine, it had turned out that we rode part of their route getting to our camp, but we hadn't seen the road with the 600m shear drop, which was cut into the side of the mountain back in the 1800s.
This time we found it, B76, what a road, words can't describe it and our photos will only go so far. When we arrived at the start of the cliff section, a young man with a drone said he was filming for the area and asked if we would mind if he followed us for a shot time with the drone. He said he would email it to us, so who knows, but we would have said yes to him anyway. He showed us afterwards what he had shot, he was experimenting with 360° footage which will allow you to look around while watching the video. Sounded great and looked great too.
This road took us to a village that was a little run down and by now it was getting way too hot to walk too much. So we took B70 back to camp
Later in the week we had a look around Crest and its history, but I'll write about that in another blog.
Just thought, we owe an explanation about the timing of our recent posts.
We had forgotten how hard it is to get WiFi, I don't know how we managed last time around. This time we have been looking for camps that have Free WiFi and talk about useless, we have trouble just getting emails in! This time round we bought a UK SIM card with free data roaming in EU countries, but doing the blog and photos uses a lot of data. So we have had to buy WiFi that doesn't come cheap. So now we're trying to catch up, hence all the blogs and photos.

Jan I appreciate you taking time and paying money to keep up these communications. I also appreciate hearing that quote from dad! Your B36 road adventure sounds very special.
