Heading into Italy we decided we would go to Liechtenstein via Stelvio Pass, a very well known pass we had traversed back in 2012.

We knew we wouldn't get as far as Stelvio in one day but decided to just start looking for a campground as the day drew on.

We haven't bought any maps for this trip, unlike last time and so haven't done any real planning at all and more or less just go with where the GPS takes us. This can be quite interesting at times, but then other times a little boring. On this occasion it was both.

For a start, it took us past the Dolomite mountains, a range we had missed last time. They were very dramatic with very ragged peaks of rock and some snow.
Then, though there are not too many routes to take, the GPS took us down a valley we had ridden before, but that was fine, the road is a windy road that more or less runs under the autostrada.

We remembered last time staying in a lovey little campground at the bottom of this valley, and thought we would stay there again, though we didn't find it and kept on going until we arrived at Morano, where we found a biggish and expensive campground. Here we met an interesting German man on a bicycle, he had also done a lot of traveling.

After setting up camp we walked into the city and were very surprised at what we found. The city was a buzz with people out walking, shopping, eating or just sitting around having a beer with family and friends.

The streets were clean and car free as they passed by old shops with all manner of wares for sale. There were shops that specialised in meats, not like our butchers in Australia, they had everything, there were amazing pet accessory shops, bars, lots of clothes shops, wine shops, cake shops, everything.

We did quite and extensive walk around the city and along the river. We passed through an old gateway in what was left of the wall that went around that part of the city. On the 'outside' of the wall we found an old Roman bridge over the river.

It really was a joy to see this city and to feel its life. We eventually had to return to camp though to head off again in the morning.
