Back in Austria we found a lovely campground on a lovely tittle lake. We only intended staying for two nights but left after four. This was in part due to the weather forecast, it kept threatening storms and even more so was that the forecast for Liechtenstein was also for storms. Liechtenstein was our next destination.
So looking at the forecast and threatening clouds that were above us, and the odd shower and one downpour that we had, we finished up walking around the lake one day, going and having a look at the close by lookout tower on another and then generally taking it easy while talking to our neighbours the rest of the time.
Our neighbours were German and Dutch and all very interested in our tales. We were starting to feel a little overwhelmed to start with. When we first started setting up camp three couples came over asking if we were really from Australia and wanted to know about our travels.
We spoke to them while setting up our camp. Then while having our pizza (which we had brought from Hungary) another couple came over saying they had been told about us! These people weren't even camped near us.
Later one of our neighbours came over and stated that he thought all the attention must get annoying, then left us alone to speak to us later.
Our visit to Pyramidenkogel Panorama lookout tower was great, it offered fantastic views of the area. This tower is quite remarkable, it claims to be the highest wooden observation tower in the world, has the highest slide in Europe, the slide spirals down inside the tower and the tower is 100m tall, though that is to the top of the spire, the top observation deck is at around 60m. At one point they brought everyone inside as a storm came through with high winds and very heavy rain. We could feel the tower moving in the wind.
On returning to camp we found our thoughtful neighbours had taken our chairs and put them under their awning when the rains had come through.
When we did leave this lovely camp we were heading for Liechtenstein, but our route would take us through northern Italy, much to our delight.
