Leaving our hostel at a punctual 6AM for our tour of the Mekong Delta was a tall order. We both felt shattered despite a good night's sleep and a two and a half hour coach trip wasn't something that we were looking forward to. After checking in, Chelsea decided that her bum spot had taken its toll on her and that she needed to go to a hospital (she picks her moments).
With an hour before our delayed coach left we went to a hospital that was a ten minute taxi ride away. We had bought an expensive pack of antibiotics yesterday for chelsea but having taken just one of the weeks worth of tablets last night and no immediate miracle cure having taken place, Chelsea decided that she should go to the hospital. In fairness she had started to walk like a gangster with a staunch limp.
The queues were already humongous at the hospital, despite it being seven o'clock in the morning. None of the staff spoke a word of English so we relied very heavily on a helpful young Vietnamese man who explained the complicated checking in system to us.
Chelsea eventually paid through the nose for a fast track treatment room while I caught a taxi back to get our insurance details incase the medical fee proved elaborately expensive.
Realising that we were never going to make our Mekong Tour I sold our tickets, for the purchase price, to a Chinese couple and pushed all of our accommodation and bus tickets back a day. Chelsea got back to the tourism office about fifteen minutes after our bus had gone; so annoying but no one's fault!
With a stressful morning of running around over we went back to our hostel irritable and frustrated.
After a good sleep and a lounge around using the good wifi, we made friends with an English couple sharing our dorm, Hannah and Paulo.
We all went out for food together and I got to sample 'Pho Bo', a noodle and beef broth that by all accounts 'built a nation' due to its simplicity and cheap ingredients. The huge bowl of it was delicious and I'll definitely be having it again at some point in Vietnam.
After food we set out to find the 'Friends' bar with Paublo and Hannah. Myself and Chels had seen it on one of our hostel wanderings around the city and were keen to have a gander inside.
When we eventually found it it was brilliantly funny. There was a small 'Central Perk' plaque on the wall behind the bar and a huge picture of Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Anniston on the wall for some reason. Other than the enormous 'Friends' heading outside the two vague references inside it was just another bar. Nevertheless we persevered heartily and after a Saigon Green beer we got an Uber taxi back to our hostel.
