Noone really fancied getting out of their pit this morning. We didn't achieve a lot yesterday so I was surprised at how tired we all were. Amy badly sprained her ankle in Eastons yesterday and had to be taken to the local hospital to get it looked at, so the rest of us spent a few hours at Bryce National Park. We sat on the edge of the canyon and enjoyed the views for a while, however the rain was sporadic and the rumbles of thunder in the distatance forced us to retreat to the visitors centre which only offered us a gift shop and somewhere to sit with a drink.
A more productive day today though, despite our lethargy. We camped at the Quality Inn camp site and awoke at 0630 to go hiking. There's that word again. I don't really 'hike' so much as bimble due to my various lower limb ailments but me and Joadie found a nice trail called the Pa'rus Trail, a 3.5 mile hike down the Virgin River. The scenery was very similar to what we've been seeing over the last few days. Lots of tall red sandstone cliffs, and wildlife. On the way back we
stopped off at a little 'beach', a small sandy area by the river, perfect for taking off our walking shoes and dipping our feet in to the cold water. The two of us then got the free shuttle bus and went on a full tour of the park, which including Angels Landing, a strenuous and precarious four hour walk, part of which is a steep narrow ridge to the summit. Sophie of course cracked on without a care in the world, and then did another two trails when she'd finished!
During this time however the rest of the group were at the pool cooling off in the 40 degree heat, reading our books and taking dips every half hour or so. It was our last night of camping so we cooked spaghetti and meatballs for dinner and ate together at the campsite for the last time. We thought we should celebrate, so we had a party. Party poppers, cake and a pinata which of course, like any adult pinata, ended up in everyone just beating the crap out of it. One more sleep in the tent and Vagas tomorrow!
