On our way from Vegas to LA we stopped off at the famous historical route 66 sign painted on the road and popped in to the teeny tiny museum. We stopped off at a huuuge burger restaurant too for lunch, where we were encouraged to order a burger 'animal style' which makes the burger particularly amazing. One more burger wont hurt I thought after the rest of the calorific food I've had this month!
When we got to LA, we headed to Hollywood Boulevard to look at the stars and the hand prints. Everyone who's anyone has a star. Elton John, Tom Hanks, John Travolta. Even the kids from Harry Potter have hand prints. There we street performers and excentric people everywhere and I wished i had more time to explore the place. In all I would be in LA for less than 24 hours and there was still so much to see! We did however get a glimpse at the Hollywood sign which was a bit of a disappointment. I thought it would be pretty spectacular but it was pretty far away and at the end of the day, just a sign!
We arrived at the Hasiender hotel at around half 6 and said fairwell to kian who made a clumsy and highly amusing get away in a shuttle bus to the airport. Afterwards we freshened up and said farewell to Sophie who had to go and meet er uncle who lives in LA and we then headed to Manhatten Beach and had a delicious dinner at a place called The kettle. My final American dinner. After a little strole on the beach we headed back and fell in to bed.
Due to having to leave for the airport at midday, I couldn't really achieve very much in the morning so had a late breakfast with the remaining members of the group, showered, packed and then said goodbye to Tara, Amy, Jodie, Danae, Helena and Katelin. They were not leaving until the following day but I found myself rather relieved I was one of the first to go as watching people drift off one by one would have been very sad.
My flight home was a good one as it was shared with Freddie Flintoff and The Wanted. Flying from LA is obviously the way forward. I sat and chatted to two nice men, one of whom was a medical student from Newcastle called Paul, and the other a mechanical engineer from Switzerland called Chris who was very in to his photography.
And that was that. My journy was over. A month in the states over in a flash. 14 states, and 5169.8 miles travelled. I did New York alone, rafted in West Virginia, went horse back riding in Utah, did the two step with a cowboy in Texas, camped under the stars in Monument Valley, flew over the Grand Canyon in Arazona, gambled in Vegas, ate the worlds greatest steak, made some exceptional friends and had the holiday of a lifetime.
I'll be back......
