After staying in Bangkok and Chiang Mai were you get hassled every five minutes of the day by a tuk tuk driver or someone trying to sell you something we have arrived in a little bit of a Mecca. For every traveler who loves a drink and a smoke of something that's a little bit illegal. Pai is a tiny cool little town were everybody knows everybody from the night before. After successfully finding our tee pee style bungalow and venturing out to taste the local beer (Chang for Aaron but at 6.4% it's far too strong for me so I'm sticking to local Leo!).We decided against everyone's advise (which is becoming a bit of a habit) to hire a motorbike and explore Pai this way, it's only a tiny place and you can do the town by foot, but there are a few attractions which you would need to drive there! 180 baht later (with insurance and 2 helmets? again the Jones curse struck me as I think I had to go through about twenty five helmets before I finally got something that was close to fitting me.) we had our little purple bike and were ready to take on the world (or Pai to be more precise). Our first port of call was a local waterfall called Mo Paeng, this was only about 20 minutes away and well worth the trek to the top, although as you can see from the pictures, it was a little harder for Aar (damn flip-flops) "why don't they have steps" he asked!! These people should have put the steps there when they made the waterfall they are so unthoughtfull. The view from the top was lovely, and we also bumped into the Koreans from the trek, the only people we keep bumping into and they don't speak a bloody word of English so it's a couple of thumbs up and peace signs and cheesy smiles and then were on are way. after seeing them in the bus station on the way from Chiang Mai and also in the road about 20 minutes after arriving in Pai! (Starting to be a bit freaky now). After about a 30 minute paddle we decided to head back and with not much time for any other visits we decided to go and shower then head up to a temple on the hill to watch a sunset which is meant to be lovely! With 365 steps up to the temple, we gave ourselves a good half an hour to get to the top! (So unfit) but again once we were up there it was well worth it.The Monks up there are great, we even squeezed in a game of ping pong with them, although they were very good and have far too much time on their hands to be that good. Yeah they kicked my ass good and proper in one of the most bizarre experiences I have had so far! They laid out a picnic of nettle tea which was surprisingly refreshing and bananas which are surprisingly straight and small but taste soo good! Guess who was there?the frigging Koreans. After the sunset we headed back, dropped the bike off and went to hang out in a bar playing a live acoustic set, this bar has swings instead of seats and is a perfect place to meet people, they're your best friends for the night and drinking buddies too!
