Rurrenabaque Amazon Rainforest - Rio Yacuma River
Wahoooo we had reached the Amazon Rainforest and booked our 'Pampus Tour' into the jungle. We left the next day and got a jeep with a Polish couple (who had just arrived from a plane which landed without its wheels!!!), a Danish couple and our driver. It took three hours to get to the boat dock and then we boarded our motorised Canoe with our Pampas guide to begin our trip up the river.
Ten minutes into our boat journey up the river, we were already seeing eagles, parrots, and turtles! Our guide could only talk spanish which was a little difficult but luckily the polish girl spoke fluent spanish so she translated everything!! After half an hour on the boat driving towards our camp we came across a tree full of small, really cute orange monkeys! Our guide gave us all fruit to feed them, they were climbing all over us. One sat on Laws head whilst eating some apple! It was so amazing to have wild monkeys so close and want to play! We stayed here for about half an hour playing with them. We were already loving this trip!
Further along the river we stopped at another camp, we saw our first crocadile here which was exciting! The guide was tapping him on the head and making him angry which was fun. He was litrally only a metre away from us. We carried on to our camp which was wooden huts suspended over the river. We had lunch and realised that we also had a camp crocadile! He was there every day, breakfast, lunch and dinner! We fed him our bones and scraps. Law threw rice and olives to him and maybe hit him on the head a little! Suprisingly, he did like vegetables!!!
After lunch on the first day we went back out on the boats. We saw pink dolphins which were the weirdest dolphins we have ever seen! They have no top fin and look very strange. However, because there dolphins, Lawrence went for a swim with them in the river with the Polish. Mikaela didnt because we had just seen a crocadile only a few minutes ago up the river. Somehow this didnt seem safe! After dolphin swimming, we headed back to camp to watch the sunset and have dinner. First day was awesomee :)
Overnight unfortuantly there was a HUGE thunderstorm. The thunder was crazyyy, and it rained all night long!! Mikaela kept Law up the entire night because she was scared. The hut we stayed in was actually swaying in the wind, and bearing in mind we had hungry crocadiles swimming around beneath us and we had no lights because electricity stopped at 10pm... it was a long night!!! In the morning we found a frog in our toilet!
Next day we headed out Anaconda hunting! We had big wellies and poncho's on and drove to a small island where we only found the smallest baby anaconda you could ever imagine!! However, we did see an anteater in the tree! Mikaela saved a baby bird which had fallen out of its nest and we both found a witchedygrub! We went searching for crocadiles in the evening with torches to search for their eyes.
The next day we went Piranha fishing. We caught three, which was exciting! Mikaela also caught two normal fish. One which she accidently killed by hooking it in the eye! We had to throw it back in the water and then all the piranhas ate it really fast :( Mikaela was very sad. After this we swam with pink dolphins again, and then we headed back to camp to get ready to go back to town. We saw lots of more monkeys on the way back, there was a really funny waterhog which we came across aswell. It stood dead still for the entire 10 minutes we were watching it and it just starred right at us. A flock of Macaw parrots flew over us towards the end as well which was also really exciting.
We got back to Rurrenabaque and arranged a flight back to La Paz. After the bus journey here we thought a 45minute journey would be a much better option...less time = less opportuanities to get killed!
