Mikaela And Lawrence's World Adventure
Bus Ride to Rurrenabaque
We booked again with a reccomended company as this bus ride was also known as hell in the rainy season. It only cost us $10.00 for a 22 hour journey so we were in for a bargain :)
We left La Paz and everythingseemed to be going well. The roads were tarmac! Which was a bonus in Bolivia, but this didn't last long! We were quickly on the worst roads we have ever experienced!!! They were gravel, full of pot holes, 3 metres wide and next to an HUGE cliff drop! Plus it was a two way road so everytime another car came we were litrally so close to the edge we could have fallen off! It was the most scaryiest bus ride of our lives. We dreaded seeing another car coming towards us!
We eventually managed to get off these roads as we became closer to ground level, it was coming to night time by now. All the locals had some weird chicken thing in a plastic bag for dinner so we skipped that and found some frankurtas on chips! We also come across some yummy soup for only$2.00 which was pretty good.
We got to know a weird bolivian man who took a liking to us, he kept talking to us all the time and thought we were Karen and Gregg?! We were definately not Karen and Gregg!
We got back on the bus, and fell asleep. Awoke at about 1am, we had stopped, thought maybe the bus driver needed a nap. Went back to sleep. Awoke again in the morning at 6am to everyone getting off the bus! We were also pointed to go up a massive hill where everyone else was going. We were looking forward to it being breakfast! Unfortuanatly for us, after 40 minutes of walking up the hill, we found out we were walking to see a huge mudslide! Which is why our bus had stopped at the bottom! Great.
We were stuck here ALL day. At 5pm we left through all the mud after 2 caterpillers had spent the day clearing! We were now 8 hours late!
We drove and drove through the night, went through more mudslides, and eventually arrived the next day at 3.30am!
We slept on the bus untill 6am to get our luggage.
What a nightmare!.... Then John the weido Bolivian turned up with a trantula and tried to put it on Laws face!!! Last thing we wanted after a 33 hour bus trip.
We went to bed.
