Mikaela And Lawrence's World Adventure
We got a 45 minute flight back to La Paz thank god because we definately didnt want a repeat of the two day bus journey that it took to get here! The plane only held 18 people and was litrally tiny!! We could even see the c*** pit which was weird!
We got back up to La Paz where the altitude went straight back up to 4000ft and you have to breathe double as hard to get enough oxygen! We jumped into a taxi which we thought was a nice man because he didnt try to stitch us on on the price... however he only dropped us half the distance to our hostel because of HUGE riots!! So, we had to lug all our luggage through the towns to get to ''Wild Rovers". Got there finally..out of breath and dying.. and there were no rooms left! Hufff...
Walked all the way back downtown and after half an hour a random guy came and found us and told us about his new hostel he runs. Wahooo. "The Lion Palace!"...perfect hotel and dead cheap...100 Bolivianos and the best hotel so far!
Stayed here for 3 nights, and went back to our regulars Mia's pizza... Kla had a Schwarma which was an amazing chicken wrap thing with houmous. We booked Death road at Luna's Cafe for the next day.
DEATH ROAD!!!
Woke up from a freeeeeezzzinggg nights sleep at Lions Palace.. (no heating anywhere here!) and we were so cold we couldnt sleep! We got to Luna's at 6.30am and had the best free breakfast so far! Bread with real butter and fresh jam, also freshly squeezed orange juice and fresh fruit...yum! We left at 7am and met our guide who spoke good english. We drove for an hour to get to the top of the hill at 5000 ft, headaches immediately! And no air!
We got all our gear on, helmets, jackets, gloves, shin and elbow pads and our wooly hats! :D Bloody freezing and our fingers almost falling off! The bikes seemed pretty good, we had a quick practice and headed for Death Road at 9am!
Everything went well, until we actually got to the dirt road section where there was no tarmac and we were litrally cycling next to cliffs with 100metre drops and skidding oon the massive stones. Mikaela kept driving towards the big rocks and skidding over them next to the edge, so she drove slowly at the back. She was first to get a puncture.. and then we all got one! Law tried to ride through a puddle but only got half way and then fell off and had to walk the rest, this got recorded on video!
We rode and rode and rode and evetually got to the end of Death Road...without dying! Yayyy. It was so ridiculously hot at the bottom that we were stripping off the entire way down! At the end we stopped off at a hotel with a dicusting green pool, but we didnt care because we were so sweaty! We had lunch and sunbathed. Then headed back to La Paz for our free well earned beer and free T-shirt. On the way back we picked up a randomer in the car who stank of BO.
We went out for dinner to Mia's cafe with Christoph who also did Death Road, had a few beers and went too bed. Have already booked our bus to Copacabana tomorrow soo were outta here...!
