Another sea day and after this we have seven consecutive port days. Eeeek! Sea days tend to follow a similar pattern. Breakfast in the Medina restaurant one deck up from the cabin. Then a mile around the Promenade Deck, which is up another level. After that, we usually sit out on the Prom Deck and read books and complete crossword puzzles. Sometimes we’ll sit by the Crystal Pool or on one of the terraces at the aft of the ship.
Lunch is usually self serve from the Horizon Restaurant. Today I had smoked salmon, clam salad plus some leaves and sundry salad stuff followed by a fruit salad and a cuppa. Afternoons tend to follow a similar pattern to the mornings. We used to play deck quoits on previous cruises, but so many people play this time around that it makes the waiting around until your turn quite tedious, so we’ve not bothered on this cruise. Occasionally, I or we will go and see a talk or demonstration or some such. Usually there are two or three talks but today for some reason there were six, none of which I went to!
The eight of us had booked for the Beach House tonight. As Barbara and I walked through Horizon to get to it (it’s part of, but separate from Horizon) we saw a lady on the floor in the door from the restaurant to the Pennant Bar. I said ‘That looks like Lynda’. Rob and Linda were waiting at the top of the stairs and said that Lynda had slipped and fallen. Phil and Yvonne then appeared and said that she may have broken her shoulder and that they had cancelled their half of the booking. During dinner, Yvonne came up and told us that she’d dislocated it and the doctor had managed to manipulate it back in place. Lynda was spending the night in the sick bay. I guess we’ll find out more tomorrow.
The meal was good and worth the extra £7.50 we paid, but the service was excruciatingly slow. We were booked for 20:00 and because of the kerfuffle sat down about 10 minutes late. We left the restaurant at 22:20. Luckily the Syndicate Quiz is held in the other half of the restaurant. The four of us were joined by Chris and Jackie, a couple we met at breakfast close to the beginning of the cruise. We scored 12/20 and changed our minds on two and so could have scored 14/20. The winners scored 14/20!
