After an extra hour in bed, we threw our washing into the machines and went for breakfast. There was a mandatory emergency stations drill at 10:00. After the drill, the captain said that there was going to be a change to the itinerary. Everyone groaned. It turns out that, instead of a sea day on 24 February, we will instead go to Martinique and overnight there. So we’ll have two days in Martinique. I was there last November and I’m not sure what we’ll do for two days, but I’m sure we’ll find something.
About 14:30, while we were sitting on the sunny side of the Promenade Deck, the guy sitting near us spotted a whale spout. We saw two whales and although they didn’t completely breach they did put their backs out of the water. There was a lot of spouting. I asked Nigel Marvin later which ones they were and he said ‘probably Sperm whales’.
Barbara and I saw Pingxin Xu in Carmens this evening. He plays the hammer dulcimer. It was a very good show. We both enjoyed it. I saw him in the Horizon restaurant after the Syndicate Quiz (13/20) and told him so.
The weather was really warm today and I think it will be sweltering in Lima tomorrow but tomorrow’s Horizon magazine says it will be cooler.
