At 4am I was woken by what I thought was someone jumping on my bed. What the hell??? I sat up ready to punch someone in the throat, only to find no one there. I then realised that the entire room was shaking!! Earthquake!!! 4.9 magnitude. As soon as it finished I went straight back to snoozeville!! As you can tell I obviously wasn't too concerned about it!!
I did get a little sleep in this morning... 7.30am, and it was glorious. As soon as I was ready I headed up to the backpackers for their big hostel breakfast. They sure weren't kidding about that. I should know by now that Central America already have big serves, so when they say big serve they actually mean huge unfinishable plates!! So it starts with a plate of fruit and a pancake, and before you even finish your fruit platter the next plate arrives with eggs, gallo pinto (which is a combination of rice and beans), bread and a bottomless cup of coffee..... all this for $4. Bargain!!
It was so big there was no need for lunch today, which was good as it was roll out day. It will be sad to say goodbye to Manuel Antonio... I would have loved a couple of extra days here. Although I don't think my lungs could taken another gallon of salt water!!
We walked down to the bus stop with our bags and patiently waited for the bus. Again it felt like I was standing on the sun. It was so hot and steamy this morning! So much so I was sweating like a drug mule going through customs!!
When the bus arrived we all threw our big bags in the under compartments of the bus. All the time the big dirty perve of a bus driver watched, didn't help, just watched. He was a grumpy b****** too. We finally all got on the bus, and again we realised pretty quickly that it was a manual air con special.... Windows open. The bus had an electronic display up the front.... Time 9.30am......Temperature 40 degrees.... Yep it all makes sense now...maybe that's why I felt a tad warm!!
We again drove across some beautiful country. It's amazing to see how green and lush this place is. Although, pervy was too busy listening to his iPod and looking at all the girls in the rear vision mirror that I'm sure he took out every low lying branch from Manuel Antonio to San Jose. So a little less green along the road now!!
3.5hrs later we made it back to San Jose. For about 1hr, Elena and I had some schmuck standing behind us... I swear it was so he too could perve down our tops, however the fact that he had he's iPod playing on loud speaker and then singing like he thought he was usher, just made us roll our eyes!!
It was marginally cooler here in San Jose...only about 35 degrees. We all got settled into our hotel rooms, and then it was time to hit the streets.
I did have to grab a couple of things, and San Jose is the place to do that. Headphones, check!!
I walked around the streets...just checking out the city. I rediscovered the main pedestrian walk that I did last week when I was here, and then walked down a couple of streets until I came across another pedestrian walkway. This one was more for the locals. There were a lot of food stores, and this is obviously where the locals head. I saw a place on a beautiful little square where everyone was buying empanadas... That looks like a great little snack to see me through to dinner time....so I ate my first empanada and it was delicious!!
I then continued on my merry way.... looking at all of these new places along the way. I came across parks, squares, buildings, and churches. It's the one thing I like to do, is just walk around and see all the places that make the town unique!!!
Tonight we headed to a restaurant to say farewell to some of our group and welcome to one more member for our final leg of this tour.
The food was delicious and I was more than happy to sink a beer with it!! I will put it down to rehydrating of course!!
We were about to leave the restaurant when a scuffle broke out between a guy and some cops. They were arresting him. Lisa our tour guide was quick to make sure everyone was safe and well inside the restaurant. I joked around with her saying 'what type of tour guide are you that doesn't let the group see all of the attractions' that statement was very very quickly retracted when one if the coppers came back to the entry way of the restaurant that we were about to leave from to retrieve a huge carving knife. Hmmmmmm, I don't recall this being a bring your own knife restaurant. I just wonder what excuse he will be using during questioning.... ' sorry officer but I believe there has been a misunderstanding, I was just trying to chop some vegetables when this man got in the way!!!'.
