After a fairly sleepless night, I managed to get up this morning. We had a tour booked, which I was really looking forward to. Never fear, the cold shower sure woke me up... Especially as I had to wash my hair this morning after the Springs last night!!! I am really mastering the art of washing my hair in a really cold shower!!
We were picked up for our tour and driven the 1.5 hrs to Cano Negro. Along the way our guide pointed out things of interest!! It was great, once we turned onto the dirt road heading towards the river, there was a waterway running alongside the dirt road, kind of like a drainage system. All the way along we stopped quite a few times whilst the guide pointed out water birds and caimans (like little alligators). The wildlife spotting started before our actual boat trip.
We made it to our destination, and we all boarded a motorised boat. The river was running really quite fast, even the boat seemed to struggle at times.
But I have to give it to our boat driver and the guide, they pointed out so much wildlife it wasn't funny!! I don't even know how they spot it!! There were birds that looked like bark, lizards that look like leaves and vampire bats that look like branch stumps!! I would have said that they were planted plastic animals.....however they were moving.
We managed to see some more sloths, we saw monkeys, iguanas and lots of birds.
Once we finished our 2.5hr boat safari, we then had a typical Costa Rican lunch. Chicken stew, rice, black beans and salad. It was yummy too!!
Then for the 1.5 hr drive home. I tried to catch up on some sleep, but I failed miserably at that!!
Our room is still so hot, so I decided to head out and try and escape the heat! I went to the souvenir shop and bought a card to work out which animals I have seen and what I haven't... but really it's so I can tell which animals I have taken photos of. I have definitely ticked off a lot of these animals, and especially the water birds.
I then went to the Central Park and sat down and enjoyed the breeze coming through! I caught up with everyone as they were returning from their morning tours.....always good to hear how everyone's tours went!! We also managed to see a hummingbird in the middle of the park, eating nectar from the flowers.
I could see the rain clouds rolling in...but I was enjoying just sitting in the coolish breeze, avoiding the sauna that is my room! It wasn't until a local man said to me that the rain is coming and that I should start walking now that I actually decided to haul myself back to the room!! He was correct too....within 5 mins the rain was falling!! Yay.... I didn't get wet!! Although I still have to negotiate getting to a restaurant for dinner tonight!!!! Hahahaha, I think that's when I will get wet!! The closest restaurant is just across the street, although the way it rains over here, we are destined to get soaked!!
Great news, all our plumbing woahs are now fixed... our toilet is no longer continually running and we have hot water!! Double yay!!
