We had booked a private tour of the BMW factory in Berlin, we had hoped to see where our bike was born, but we took too long in the engine building factory and could only see the birth of the 650 and 800s, it was most interesting and took three hours. We wanted to see what was left of the Berlin Wall and to see how it effected the city and its people, we really weren't prepared for what we learnt and found. Berlin has this brilliant memorial to the horrendous period of its history, from the rise of the Nazis to the fall of the wall, another incredibly emotional experience. There are only small parts of the wall left to see, one section of 1.3Km has been painted by professional Graffiti Artists, while a section at the memorial is original. Like Warsaw most of Berlin was flattened in the war, so there is not a lot of original architecture to see, but Berlin has some brilliant parks and gardens, one third of Berlin is covered in parks or gardens, very green. Since Berlin was unified in 1990 there has been a huge amount of rebuilding and it continues today, particularly in East Berlin, Germany is certainly spending a lot of money on infrastructure. We spent two days looking around Berlin and could easily have spent a lot more time and money, it really was a very nice, clean and beautiful city despite its checkered history. From Berlin we jumped onto the autobahn system and headed west to Wiesbaden to visit friends and get a suspect mole on Julie's leg checked.

Mum/Marion How great for you to be seeing so much of the WW11 history, all very imotional of course, but great that the rebuilding of Berlin is so well done. I have friends who live in N.Eltham, have family & an apartment in Wiesbaden and spend 3 months of each year there (currently too). I understand it is a rather lovely modern clean place.
Denise Granger Great to final catch. You and Julie seem to be on the move very fast now. Wow! Berlin is also on the move too. Sounds like you have the emotional journey intact. If I can say that.
Janet McIntyre Interesting observations. Lisa loves Berlin and its mixture of buildings.
